Caring for Your Candles: Tips for Optimal Enjoyment
Share
Hey there, candle lovers!
At Handmade by Houchin, we pour our hearts and souls (and a whole lot of love) into creating beautiful, high-quality candles for you to enjoy. But just like a fine piece of art or a delicious meal, your candles deserve a little TLC to ensure they burn beautifully and safely.
So, let's dive into some simple tips to help you get the most out of your handcrafted creations:
1. The First Burn is Crucial
- Create an even melt pool: On the first burn, allow your candle to burn for long enough to melt a full pool of wax across the entire surface. This prevents tunneling (where the candle burns down the center and leaves a deep well of unmelted wax around the edges).
- Trim the wick: Before each burn, trim the wick to about ¼ inch. This ensures a clean, even burn and minimizes smoke and soot.
2. Burning Time & Safety
- Never leave a burning candle unattended. Even for a short time!
- Keep candles away from drafts. Drafts can cause uneven burning and increase the risk of fire.
- Burn candles on a heat-resistant surface. Never place a burning candle directly on wood, paper, or fabric.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
3. Storing Your Candles
- Cool and dark place: Store your candles in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep them upright: Avoid storing candles on their sides, as this can cause the fragrance to leak or the wick to become displaced.
4. Troubleshooting
- Tunneling: If you notice your candle is tunneling, try using a hairdryer to gently melt the edges of the wax pool.
- Soot: If you're experiencing excessive soot, trim the wick shorter.
We hope these tips help you enjoy your Handmade by Houchin candles to the fullest!
